Synopsis: Revised version in maximum resolution (2048 × 1536 pixels) "Der Struwwelpeter" is considered the most successful German children's book even before Max and Moritz and has been translated into many languages. In 1844, the doctor Heinrich Hoffmann tried to get a picture book that he could give his three-year-old son Carl for Christmas. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the reader) he found nothing that seemed appropriate for a child Carl's age. Instead, Hoffmann bought an empty copybook and decided to draw a picture book for his son himself. The original manuscript is exhibited in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. Soon after the first edition, the children's book was translated into many languages. There were also parodies or politicizing changes early on. The issue of raising children divided the readership from the beginning and subsequently provoked a critical discourse. By the time the copyright was released in 1925, more than an overwhelming 540 editions had appeared. The classic English translation is by Mark Twain. Der Friederich, der Friederich, That was a bad madman! He caught the flies in the house and tore off their wings. He killed the chairs and birds. The cats were in great distress. And just hear how angry he was: He whipped, alas, his Gretchen! Null Papier Verlag www.null-papier.de
