When does one speak of "arriving too early"?

But how early is actually "too early"? How long should the time between first penetration and ejaculation be - so that it is not understood as premature ejaculation?

Because there was no objective measure of time, Doctor Frank Sommer got away from it University Hospital Cologne on track. As part of a study, he divided 45 men between 25 and 40 years into 3 groups. In the first group there were 15 men who complained of premature ejaculation. Group 2 consisted of 15 healthy volunteers. In the third group: 15 urologists. All men lived in stable relationships. Using a stopwatch, the partners recorded the time until the partner's coitus several times.

The result: The early comers needed an average of two and a half minutes, the healthy three minutes - not a big difference. Only the urologists who dealt with sex professionally had twice as long fun, namely 6 minutes. "The duration of sexual intercourse is certainly not the actual suffering of those affected," concludes Dr. Sommer. "Factors such as the partner's expectations and a lack of body control are more important." 5 harmless reasons for erectile problems.

Means: Whether you arrive too early is not measured by the time, but by your personal feelings.

What are the symptoms of premature ejaculation?

  • The man ejaculates before penetration into the woman or ejaculation occurs during or only very shortly after penetration - in about one to two minutes.
  • The man cannot manage and control the timing of ejaculation.

It usually takes about 5 minutes for the man to experience orgasm and ejaculate. If the time is significantly less or less than 2 minutes, there may be an ejaculatio praecox, i.e. premature ejaculation.

What are the causes of premature ejaculation?

There are a variety of causes that can lead to premature ejaculation - psychologically as well as physically. Possible psychological causes are, for example, early childhood sexual disorders, fear of failure or general anxiety disorders during sex. But even if the affected man suffers from erectile dysfunction (erectile dysfunction), this can promote premature ejaculation. This is how erectile dysfunction drugs help with erectile dysfunction.

Premature ejaculation can also result physical causes how urinary tract infections or diabetes mellitus - i.e. diabetes - are caused. Certain medications can also be responsible for this: for example, painkillers or active ingredients that affect the sympathetic nervous system - i.e. part of the autonomic nervous system.

Other causes can also be of organic origin. Organic reasons but are usually limited in time, which means that as soon as the original disease has healed, the man no longer suffers from premature ejaculation. The following diseases are organic triggers:

  • Balanitis (inflammation of the glans): The classic under the glans inflammation with redness and swelling (balanitis vulgaris simplex) is caused by foreskin constriction, vigorous masturbation, too little or too much hygiene.
  • Frenulum breve (shortened penis ligament): It is either congenital or the result of an inflammation of the glans. The too short ribbon causes painful tears in traffic.
  • Urethritis (inflammation of the urethra): Mostly it is triggered by gonorrhea. Suspicious signs: pain when peeing, discharge.
  • Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate): Sufferers have to urinate constantly with pain. But it can also hurt when you have a bowel movement.
  • Overactive thyroid: These can also cause premature ejaculation. Symptoms: palpitations, high blood pressure and sweating.
  • Neurological diseases: Such as multiple sclerosis or cerebral palsy (spasticity) can make ejaculation problems worse.

By the way: Studies have shown that circumcised men are just as likely to suffer from premature ejaculation as those who have a foreskin. So there is no point in getting circumcised. These are the pros and cons of a circumcised penis.

It is now also known that premature ejaculation can have neurobiological causes. Above all, the tissue hormone and messenger substance of the central nervous system, serotonin, plays a major role here. This messenger substance has the function of erectile function and controls the ejaculation. If the neurotransmitter is misdirected, this can lead to uncontrollable ejaculation.

6 tips against premature ejaculation

Stress, pressure to perform and partnership problems are most often to blame for the unplanned snap shots. Often it is a temporary mental disorder that does not require treatment. Premature ejaculation can be prevented with the following 6 tips.

  1. Training the pelvic muscles with the Kegel method: Self-help begins with gymnastics for the buttocks. Premature ejaculation is influenced by two muscles: on the one hand by the sphincter muscle and on the other hand by the muscle that regulates the flow of urine. The Kegel method trains these muscles: Tense the urinary muscle and the sphincter muscle 20 to 40 times in a row for about 2 to 3 seconds. Slowly increase the number of reps. Your stomach and legs will stay relaxed during the exercise, which is best done while sitting. To achieve real success, you should do this pelvic floor exercise several times a day.

  2. Start-stop method: With the start-stop method, the penis is stimulated until it is very excited. Sexologists call this critical point the "point of no return". When this moment is reached, the stimulation is stopped abruptly. When the excitement has almost subsided, the penis should be stimulated again. The man can repeat this process several times alone or together with his partner. Stopping and starting is then repeated over a period of about 15 minutes. Only then should the climax be allowed. This method helps the man to perceive the excitement better and better over time and thus to control the ejaculation.

  3. Squeeze technique: The squeeze handle helps in an emergency. Before ejaculating, press the glans with your thumb until the pressure disappears. The squeeze technique can also be taken over by your partner. After stimulating the penis and then applying pressure to the penis, the urge to ejaculate decreases. After 20 seconds, the penis should be aroused again. The stimulation and the pressure should be carried out alternately over a period of about 20 minutes in order to achieve success.

  4. Use numbing condoms: Use a condom with a light anesthetic, for example Performa from Durex or dolphi Delay.

  5. Breathe properly: Only inexperienced lovers neglect breathing during sex, although admittedly it can get pretty wild at times. That leaves you breathless: Holding your breath when the climax is approaching is fundamentally wrong. As a result, adrenaline is released and carbon dioxide accumulates in the blood. Both in turn accelerate ejaculation. Instead, inhale focused while the penis is in the backward motion.

  6. Insert the hip: Instead of just moving in and out, let the pelvis rotate properly: Rotate when intercourse with the abdomen instead of just performing in and out movements. You hold the rest of your body still. This way you control your heart rate and you don't get too excited too quickly.

There are many techniques you can use to train yourself to delay ejaculation. We are now taking a very close look at two of them: the start-stop technique and the squeeze method.

This is how the start-stop technology works

With the start-stop method, you stimulate the penis until the point of no return is imminent. This is how sexologists describe the point in time from which ejaculation can no longer be prevented. Before that happens, stop the stimulation and take a rest. After a minute, the ejaculatory pressure has completely subsided.

Repeat this start-stop exercise three to four times. The stimulation phase should last at least five minutes. Treat yourself to the climax after about 15 to 20 minutes. At the end of the last session, nothing speaks against ejaculation.

Tip: Get yourself a lubricant for masturbating - this increases the intensity of the physical feeling, the sensations are to a great extent similar to those during sexual intercourse. Or let your partner do all of the work with controlled stimulation. You lie on your back, your partner kneels in front of your penis and takes it in her hand. Don't be afraid to give specific pointers on when it's most arousing. But it is important not to ejaculate.

And above all: take your time. Especially men, who in their early years and for a long period of time only lent hands briefly and quickly, then suffer from ejaculatio praecox in partnerships. Anyone who masturbates for a long time and with pleasure is usually automatically spared. 10 tricks to help you last longer during sex.

This is how the squeeze technique works

This is how it works: In the event of an acute orgasm alarm, you stop sexual intercourse shortly before ejaculation. To be able to go on again after 15 seconds, use the squeeze technique. To do this, your partner takes the penis in her hand, the thumb below the edge of the glans, the index and middle fingers opposite (above or below the edge of the glans). Then squeeze the penis for 15 seconds. The pressure on the urethra reduces the urge to ejaculate. Be careful not to press too hard if the erection declines!

After squeezing, she sits on you in a riding position and pushes the semi-hard penis into her vagina. After one to two minutes, your partner can start again with rhythmic movements. You remain completely passive. If premature ejaculation is threatened again, repeat this technique. This will make you ejaculate more explosively.

Conclusion: You can get your ejaculation under control

Climaxing early is not something to be ashamed of. It is the same for many men. Get to the bottom of the causes of your premature ejaculation - alone, with your partner or your doctor. Only around 10% of all those affected go to the doctor. He can usually help with that. Train with the techniques presented and be patient. Then you will soon have endless fun during sex again!
