Why don't I feel addicted to smoking?

Smoking cigarillos properly - we'll show you how it's done

In the following text we want to offer you not only tips for the correct smoking of cigarillos but also further information on the subject of cigarillos. The term cigarillo is not precisely defined, which is why you will find different explanations for this term.

Some say that cigarillos are the cigar's little brother. Others believe that cigarillos are a mixture of cigarettes and cigars. And still others refer to cigarillos as the cigar for beginners. We think that cigarillos shouldn't be pigeonholed, but represent an independent way of enjoying tobacco. Smoking cigarillos properly is not that easy - because what is right and what is wrong?

Smoking or puffing on your lungs?

The question of how to smoke cigarillos properly should not be answered too broadly, in the end it is a matter of taste for the aficionado. There are no clear guidelines for the correct smoking of cigarillos: In the end it is of course up to the smoker whether he enjoys the cigarillo like a cigar. That means he puffs him. Or he enjoys the cigarillo like a cigarette and inhales the smoke. This is certainly also dependent on the strength of the cigarillo. From a health point of view, inhalation is not recommended as more pollutants and toxins enter the body. Incidentally, this also applies to filter cigarillos.

The real taste experience when smoking a cigarillo is more likely to come from the so-called "puffing". Because when puffing, the smoke is absorbed in the oral cavity and expelled again either through the mouth or the nose. The development of the different aromas can best be achieved by absorbing the smoke only in the oral cavity.

Even if the cigarillos are more similar in shape to cigarettes, the tobacco used in the case of many Cuban brands such as Romeo y Julieta or Cohiba is premium tobacco. And this type of tobacco is just too valuable to be quickly and casually smoked on the lungs. The motto also applies to high-quality cigarillos: give your time, enjoy and give the smoke your full attention. Thanks to its small size, the cigarillo is quicker to smoke than a cigar that is occupied for a longer period of time.

Nevertheless, the duration of smoking cigarillos is different and depends on the format and size. The small Cohiba Cigarillos MINI can certainly be smoked within 5 minutes. Other formats can offer smoking pleasure of up to 20 minutes.

As a rule of thumb, one puff per minute is sufficient and ensures that the tobacco does not burn too quickly. Because if he does, the cigarillo tastes hot, bitter and scratchy. No more trace of the tasty, spicy and fruity aromas that the finest Havana tobacco has to offer. It is therefore important to take your time and to smoke the cigarillo properly with pleasure.

Cigarillo production

Cigarillos contain more or less the same tobacco as cigars. This can be whole, long sheets, the so-called long fillers. Or short, torn tobacco leaves, the short filler. However, long filler cigarillos are rarely found.

When producing cigars or cigarillos as long fillers, the whole leaves for the insert are wrapped with the leaves for the binder and then the cover sheet is added. This type of production is usually done by hand and requires a certain amount of experience.

With the short filler, the doll or wrap is made with cut or torn tobacco and then wrapped with the wrapper. With the smaller formats of the cigarillos, the tobacco requirement is very low and therefore this process is mostly made by machine nowadays.

Tobacco - pure or flavored

Due to the small size, mild tobacco is used for cigarillos. Usually these are Java, Sumatra and Brazil tobacco. Java tobacco is considered light and aromatic, Sumatran tobacco is mild and spicy, and tobacco from Brazil is aromatic and spicy.

Cuba cigarillos are of course made from an exquisite selection of the best tobacco leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region. If you want to enjoy pure tobacco enjoyment with cigarillos, you should make sure that the packaging says 100% tobacco product.

Real cigarillos are wrapped with an appropriate wrapper and not with ribbon tobacco that is obtained from tobacco waste. Since corresponding inexpensive products are also sold as cigarillos on the German market, one should pay attention to this detail. The cover sheet also defines the origin of the cigarillo. Wrappers from various growing areas around the world are used, often from Brazil, Indonesia, North America or Cuba, depending on the variety.

Meanwhile there are also a large number of friends of flavored cigarillos. Artificial flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, whiskey and many other flavors are added to the tobacco. But pipe smokers or cigarette smokers also appeal to this type of cigarillos. In addition to the aroma, similar to many pipe tobacco, the filters usually used are another reason.

The filter cigarillos are noticeably close to cigarettes. Tape tobacco is used as the cover sheet. This is finely cut tobacco mixed with paper. These are not 100% tobacco products.

The most famous brands

The most famous cigarillos are certainly those from Cuba such as those from Cohiba, Montecristo, Partagas and Romeo y Julieta.
