The social power of money

Despite - or perhaps because of - its ubiquity in society, the topic of "money" is still a blind spot in the social and economic sciences. The volume is intended to help remedy this shortcoming. Beyond the usual technical view of money as a medium of exchange, measure of value and means of payment, the topic is illuminated from a deliberately broad spectrum of perspectives: money as a communication medium, money and religion, money and modernity, the psychology of money and consumption, money and social character, central banks and financial markets.
