To the person of Eminem
Eminem spent the first years of his life in his birthplace St. Joseph in the US state of Missouri. His parents are Marshall Bruce Mathers II and Deborah Briggs. The father left the family when his son was three months old. Mother Deborah was just 17 years old at the time and was already a drug addict. When the rapper was twelve years old, he and his mother moved to Warren, a suburb of Detroit. Up to the ninth grade, Eminem attended school fairly regularly, but got bad grades and began to skip school. The result: Eminem dropped out of school. From then on he earned money with part-time jobs and moved frequently - mostly because he couldn't pay the rent. At the same time, the rapper met and fell in love with his future wife, Kimberly Ann Scott.
His half-uncle Ronald Polkinghorn got the teenager excited about rap for the first time. When Ronald shot himself in a break-in in 1991, a world collapsed for Eminem. Despite the tragedy, life went on for Eminem: in 1995 he became a father for the first time - daughter Hailie Jade was born. The couple also adopted Kimberly's niece Alaina and Eminem took over custody of the girl. He also adopted Whitney, Kimberley's daughter from a previous relationship. The couple married in 1999, but divorced again in 2001. Two are better than one: the two married again in 2006 and divorced in the same year.
Things didn't always go well for Eminem: sometimes his own mother sued him for ten million dollars in compensation for defamation, sometimes he was on trial for possession of guns. Ex-wife Kim also sued him and wanted to have his custody withdrawn. In 2007, Eminem's best friend Proof died. Shortly afterwards, the rapper was hospitalized for an overdose. He has been clean and withdrawn since 2008.
Eminem's professional history
As M&M (the initials of his real name Marshall Mathers), Eminem began rapping at the age of 14 and made a name for himself with freestyle rape in high school. In 1995 he gave up the stage name in order to avoid legal disputes with Mars, the manufacturer of the M & M’s. He called himself Eminem from then on and continued to rap more or less attention-grabbing in the Detroit scene. When he joined the rap combo "D12", he created the character "Slim Shady".
The producer Dr. Dre became aware of Slim Shady aka Eminem when he got his hands on the "Slim Shady EP". Dre signed the rapper immediately. It became Eminem's first album (1999) and made it to number 1 in the charts. The single "My Name is" flew to number 2 in the charts at rocket pace. Subsequent albums "The Marshall Mathers LP," "The Eminem Show" and "Encore" had even greater commercial success. Eminem received three awards at the 2003 Grammys, following a withdrawal, two failed marriages and the loss of his friend Proof the rapper fell silent.
Eminem reappeared in 2009 and presented his new studio album "Relapse". A year later, "Recovery" was released. Both albums are about withdrawal, deal with private setbacks and the rapper's childhood. After 5 years he appeared again at festivals for the first time in 2010. In 2013 his eighth studio album was released, which includes songs with Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar. In 2014 he set a very special record. He rapped 1,560 words in six minutes, setting the Guinness World Record for the most words in a song. In October 2016 the seven-minute free track "Campaign Speech" was released, rapping without interruption and editing. In the one-take he announced that he was working on a new album.
Eminem has also been shown in the cinema. The (autobiographical) film "8 Mile", in which he played the leading role, was extremely successful. Today the rapper is the owner of the music label "Shady Records".
